How 2020 went and why I’m finally starting a blog. . .

It’s no secret that 2020 was a challenging year for everyone. With constant stress due to COVID-19, a career change, and a big move, I definitely needed something to help me unwind.

I grew up as an avid reader. I remember the first time that someone commented on my reading, I was 10 years old. My fourth grade teacher had assigned an “All About Me” project where each of us was required to share one of our favorite things. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince had just come out and I had devoured it enthusiastically. My favorite item was a copy of the Half Blood Prince that I had proudly acquired at midnight the day it came out and had promptly read in one sitting. While I told this story to my teacher, she gave me a look and said “well you’re just a little book nerd!” Looking back, I think her tone was less than encouraging, however I fully embraced that label and continued to explore reading throughout my childhood.

Reading has always been an escape for me and in my adulthood I had lost the magic that reading held for me as a child. Although lockdowns and stay-at-home orders were not happy occurrences, they encouraged me to rekindle my love of reading as an adult.

2020 has been challenging in many ways, but I am grateful that I have rediscovered reading as an escape.

The next step in my reading journey is this blog. I wanted to create a space that I could not only gush about books that I love, but I could also think critically about books that I don’t love. I also wanted a space that I could freely practice writing in a low pressure environment. So if you’re a fan of book reviews, TBR lists, book recommendations, and any other bookish thoughts that pop into my head, this is the place to be.
